Fractions (Year 3)

In KS2 Maths children will learn more about fractions. This begins in Year Three with children recognising the values of different fractions, for example that a quarter is the same as 1 divided by 4, or that a half is the same as two quarters.

If you cut a cake up to share amongst your friends you are dividing it into fractions. Fractions are numbers which are less than a whole. You may know that one third is written as ¹⁄₃ in fraction form, or that three quarters is ³⁄₄. But how good are you at recognising their values? How many thirds or quarters make a whole? And which is bigger - two thirds or a half?
