About KS1 English Spelling
Our KS1 English Spelling section is designed for children aged 5–7 in Years 1 and 2. Each quiz has 10 questions with instant answers and friendly explanations, helping pupils learn patterns, spot mistakes and build confidence. Topics follow common phonics and spelling rules so practice is purposeful and age-appropriate.
Children meet high-frequency words and key sound–spelling links, then see rules in action. Try quick starters like Year 1 – Adding “ed”, build verbs with Year 1 – Adding “ing”, explore digraphs in Year 2 – The Sound “wr” and review common exception words in Year 2 – Tricky Words.
Use the quizzes for homework, retrieval practice or catch-up. Short, regular sessions — with a replay after a day or two — strengthen recall and help children transfer correct spellings into everyday writing.
See the official Government guidance: English programmes of study: key stages 1 and 2.
